Reminders:

Math Classes:

Recently we used the NetBook Cart!!  We now have a cart with 30 mini laptops.  The students will be utilizing this fabulous resource in many different ways. Last week, the students connected to the internet wirelessly in order to access www.studyisland.com.

The students were excited to use this technology, and they did a nice job handling the machines with care.  Good Job!! 

We have just finished Chapter 2, and we took the Chapter 2 math test.  Overall, I was pleased with the results of the tests.  Please continue to help me by reminding you child to prepare in advance for math assessments.  A great resource for students to use at home is www.classzone.com.  This website was created by the textbook company.  I like to suggest taking the practice test online.

We have just finished Chapter 2, and we are preparing to take the 2^nd math test of the year.  The Chapter 2 Test will be on Monday, October 19, 2009.  The format will be similar to the last test (Multiple Choice and short answer).  Please help me by reminding you child to prepare in advance for this assessment.  We will review the skills from Chapter 2 tomorrow (10-16-09).  A great resource for students to use at home is www.classzone.com.  This website was created by the textbook company.  I like to suggest taking the practice test online.

6th Grade NASA Presentation!!

The EPES students received a wonderful treat on Wednesday, Oct. 14th. Paul Dum, a NASA employee stationed in Houston, TX, visited the students and gave a presentation that lasted over an hour. Mr. Dum, a Hempfield and Penn State University graduate, spoke to the children about his responsibilities at NASA which include repairing and updating the spacesuits, as well as teaching the astronauts about spacesuits and spacewalks. The sixth grade teachers and students would like to thank Mr. Dum for taking the time to come to our school and providing us with this unique experience!

Students, picture day is tomorrow!  I don’t know about you, but my haircut is scheduled for tonightJ  Don’t forget to come to school dressed to impress for our Fall Pictures.

**Parents, payment for the pictures is due tomorrow.  The form says, “Portrait Packages will be printed only for students paying on Portrait Day.”  For added convenience, you can pay online by visiting www.mylifetouch.com  You will receive an online payment code.  Simply put this code in the space provided on the form and send in the form with your child.

Reading:  Get working on your Reading Log entries!!  All logs must be signed ;-)

Math Classes:

All math classes will be going to the computer lab today.  The only homework assignment will be to bring Practice 2.5 (“Bar Graphs”) with you to class on Thursday.

Math Classes are in the swing of things!  We have finished Chapter 1, taken the test, and we are over half way through Chapter 2!  Overall, I am pleased with the progress of the students. 

Believe it or not, some students are still coming to class without their materials (pencils, books, logs, homework).  This is certainly not an overwhelming number of students.  However, if students repeatedly come to class unprepared I will be forced to issue Level 1 slips and/or an after-school detention.  Please know that this is a small number of students.  However, I thought it would be best to have my expectations made clear to all. Any assistance you can provide from home regarding “class preparation” is greatly appreciated.  I suspect we will have this problem solved very soon J Thanks for your support.
